Mortgage Advice
Kilcreggan
Kilcreggan sits at the southern tip of the Rosneath Peninsula, looking out across the Firth of Clyde to Gourock and the hills of Inverclyde beyond. It's one of those places that people visit once and start calculating whether they could make it work permanently. For those who do make the move - or who already call it home - the mortgage picture here has some specific features worth understanding.

A GENUINELY LOCAL ADIVSER
Our Story
Lorraine Fraser, our adviser covering Kilcreggan and the wider peninsula, is based here. She knows the village, the ferry timetable, the property types, and the lenders who are comfortable with this part of Scotland. When it comes to arranging a mortgage in Kilcreggan, that local knowledge makes a practical difference.
GETTING HERE AND WHY IT WORKS
Kilcreggan is well connected by road along the peninsula - the A814 and the route through Rosneath and Garelochhead bring you onto the main road network without difficulty. For people making the move from Glasgow or the central belt, the commute is more manageable than the postcode suggests.
The CalMac passenger ferry to Gourock is a genuine bonus for those who want it - a short crossing that drops you directly onto the rail network for Glasgow. For many people who move here, the ferry becomes part of the appeal rather than a practical consideration. It's a different way to start the working day.
RURAL AND NON-STANDARD PROPERTIES
Kilcreggan's housing stock is a mix - Victorian and Edwardian villas, solid stone cottages, some more modern detached houses, and occasional properties that don't fit neatly into a standard lender's boxes. Non-standard construction, solid walls, unusual roof types, outbuildings - any of these can narrow the field of lenders willing to proceed on standard terms.
We look at the property and the mortgage together from the start. There's almost always a lender who will take a considered view - the job is finding the right one for the property in front of us.
THE ARMED FORCES CONNECTION
HMNB Clyde at Faslane is a short drive from Kilcreggan, and a number of people in the area are connected to the base. If you're serving or have served, Forces Help to Buy and specialist lenders with forces-friendly criteria can make a significant difference to what's available to you. We work with those lenders regularly.
BUYING IN SCOTLAND
If you're new to buying in Scotland, there are some important differences to the process you may know from elsewhere. You'll get a Home Report - including a valuation - before you make an offer. Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT) applies instead of Stamp Duty, with different rates and thresholds. The offer and missives process is legally different from the English system.
We'll walk you through all of this so there are no surprises.
TALK TO LORRAINE
